Excellent video from MediaCultures about the internet. Data is being shared, mixed, remixed, to produce something amazing. I think this is what Tim Berners-Lee meant when he conceived of hypertext.
I have always enjoyed the Myst universe, both games and books. I am happy that URU was created, and wish to play. I was part of the public beta in late 2006, but stopped playing when the beta expired. Now that summer will afford a little more free time, I decided to reinvestigate the [...]
J and I stayed at a Ramada Inn in Milton Ontario during our Crosswinds Party trip this December. Like any decent hotel, they provided wireless internet access. Like most services provided by non-geeks for non-geeks, it doesn’t quite work, and noone at the hotel knows how to make it go.
Sometimes I like to walk through [...]
I’m one of those sorts of people that toys with the idea of procuring the services of a competent neurosurgeon for the sole sake of doing some mind hacking. Specifically lower-level I/O.

I’ve been reading through an essay by Doc Searls entitled “Saving the Net: How to Keep the Carriers from Flushing the Net Down the Tubes“. It addresses a set of issues that have been bugging me for a while.
We need to stress how the pipe-centric view of the world is responsible for the crippled and [...]
Much grinning is due to Kitty’s ever-inspiring awesomeness. It must be established, and illustrated, at some point, just how this little rodent maintains his links to the wired.
At approx 13:45, Monday Nov 28, 2005, my UPS clicked over to battery and right back to grid power. I thought nothing of it. Moments later, my fixed wireless session dropped, nothing at all from the tower. After some cursory troubleshooting, I picked up my telephone to call Xplornet tech support, only to be met [...]
bmd has recently moved into the city of Windsor, down near the university. With this transition comes all sorts of other changes, like moving your adsl service between lines. As Jet2.Net does not currently provide dry-loop dsl service, he has gone with Sympatico, our local craptastic incumbent provider. Still, the order is not due to [...]
This post comes to you via Rakka, currently enjoying her link with the University of Windsor’s wireless network.
There’s some quirky problems with dhcp actually getting a reply, which I’ll have to look into. Also, it seems my wireless nic supports promisc mode: tcpdump has lots to say.
Wireless service from Xplornet is working for now. I’m getting around 1Mbps symmetrical. There were some intermittent connectivity problems (packet loss & connection drop every 30 minutes or so), but they seem to have been mitigated by a change made this morning.
Going to watch the link, and see the slightly-less-intermittent-suckage. Hopefully this can be fixed. [...]
